📋 Before Your Chicks Arrive
Set up and pre-warm your brooder at least 24-48 hours before arrival - check for cold spots and drafts
Do not use newspaper - use absorbent wood shavings 2-4 inches thick on the floor
Put out feed first, then add cold water just before the chicks arrive
First drink only - add 4 teaspoons of sugar per gallon of water to give chicks a strong start
Dip each chick's beak gently into the water when you place them in the brooder
Target temperature: 32°C (86-90°F) at chick height - reduce by 3°C per week
