In spring 2026, the Government of Alberta announced changes to the Used Oil Materials Recycling Program that will expand recycling opportunities and included an update to the fee schedule for a number of products. This included an increase to the maximum recyclable container size from 30L to 50L.
Effective October 1, 2026, the following materials have been designated as "recyclable" and environmental fees must now be collected and remitted to the Alberta Recycling Management Authority:
- Diesel exhaust fluid (DEF)
- Windshield washer fluid
- Antifreeze
- Containers associated with these materials
These environmental fees have been implemented across Peavey Mart locations in Alberta, ranging from $0.06 to $1.25/L. For Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), Windshield Washer Fluid, and Antifreeze containers up to 50L, fees equal $0.12 per litre of container size; Antifreeze Concentrate and Premix equal $0.14 per litre.
Note: fees are only applicable in Alberta Peavey Mart locations.
